Subject: Newbie Help

Hello Everyone

So I have been inspired by the Olympics and I am going to start training for tri's. I do not have a bike, but figured I could start running and swimming. I have a running background (nothing in last 5 years) but swimming might be different story. I can swim, but will need help getting started and going. Can anybody suggest starter swim groups where I can get some help. If not any pool suggestions would be great. I just moved to Raleigh on Aug 1st so I do not know much about anything. I live in the 5 points area.

Thanks in advance for any info and help.

My advice would be to find a local pool (high school's sometimes have resident / adult swim times for a nominal fee) or a YMCA.  You can also search your area for a masters swimming class. Find a training plan and stick to it!  You're gonna do great!

Glad the Olympics inspired you to Tri!

Hey, no worries.  Like the poster above said, the YMCA's offer stroke clinics periodically.  FYI, I live in Raleigh and I know the Alexander family YMCA would be closest to you.  They offer adult swim instruction.

If you're past the need for individual instruction and want to do some fine-tuning, there is a master's team at Pullen.  This runs about $50 a month...maybe not that much.  Don't know a whole lot as I've not been personally, but my coach recommended it for swim touch-ups.

I work in the Five Points area. Swim three times a week lunch time at the Golds Gym North Hills Mall. They offer several different swim classes/lessons if you wanted to take them. Welcome to the area.
