Yeah, this one could've been interesting, but admittedly, its a rather pedestrian issue.  In the pool today at LTF, about 15 min's into the swim, my lips began to burn.  The sensation traveled into my mouth, my nasal passages, and down my throat.  After about 35 mins, I couldn't take anymore and got out.

I reported it to the front desk, they said something about needing to adjust the PH levels.  Its 2 hours later and the burning sensation is only slightly better, but still there.

What the heck is this?  I've been swimming in pools for years and never had this happen.  Any ideas?

Thx.

i would ask what the heck the pH levels were (s.b 7.5 +/- 0.2) and what the cl2 levels were. hold them accountable if they are out of range with what your local health department says is acceptable (this info is online).

without the chem readings, a reasonable guess as to what is going on isn't really possible. pool chemistry can be a tricky issue sometimes, but safety should always be paramount.

it's completly unacceptable to swim in a unsafe pool. you're paying for a service which they failed to provide. to me, the answer that they provided was a "shut him up and move him along" answer....

the burn may be directly correlated to how fast you were swimming...ala a rockets re-entry to the atmosphere!

Mystery solved.  The gym called me to say the pool chemicals are regulated by a computer, which has seemingly failed.  I was coontinually dumping chlorine into the pool, which was the cause for the burning sensations.

Apparently, there was a water-jogger lady in a blue bathing suit.  When she exited the pool, the top of her suit was still blue, but the bottom, submerged part was light green.

I can't believe I swam in that stuff.

Great, so you were basically swimming in bleach.  I'd ask them what their policy is for manually checking ph is.  It seems to me if they didn't have a policy in previously the ought to now.

oh you found out before I could answer.

def too much chlorine.  In back yard pools when we were kids I remember some of the dodgy ph levels with dads jsut tipping a bit of you'll be right amount of chlorine into the pool.   As kids we'd get out with red eyes and burning lips etc.    not much fun
