I was doing 100 yrd sprints today with 20-30 second rest in between and I had incredible heart rates going and was wondering to myself if there is a way without equipment to determine my heart rate at that given time.

I was getting about 3 pulse beats per second sometimes and figured it to be 180 beat a minute?  Maybe 2 beats a second at some point my question is.. Is there a way without gear to determine my heartrate at any given time approximently?

you can get a good estimate by counting the number of beats during 10 seconds and multiplying by 6, but it is off due to needing to stop to take your HR....

so essentially you cannot.

simple HRM are not expensive.

Count the number of heartbeats in 10 seconds and multiply by 6. Or Count the number of heartbeats in 15 seconds and multiply by 4.

Count the number of beats in a time period.

My question is:  Why does it matter?

You can find a very inexpensive watch/heart rate monitor on ebay.  I bought one that is a watch and heart rate monitor, it keep your average HR over a specified period of time, counts calories burned based on your preset height and weight and keeps approx. 30 laps..... it only cost around $50.  The best part is there is no chest strap to wear, it reads your HR through being on your wrist.

I don't guess it would really matter unless you are hoping to increase endurance and keep up with your Lactate Threshold so that you stay in aerobic metabolism instead of anaerobic metabolism.

You take your two fingers and place it on your carotid artery and try to keep count.
