Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey my name is Chris. Hmm lets see about me I am a college student at Southern Miss trying to get into Vet school. I am 6'1 307lbs yep im a clydesdale ha! I am not all biggness I was played football as a offensive lineman. After breaking my arm and doing some knee damage I stopped. Since I stopped I wasnt active anymore so I just became a fat kid. How I came about this site and racing. This past summer I had moved out to San Francisco with my cousin. My two cousin wanted me to do body building work outs. So I joined there gym and started lifting. Well I am not exactly a big city guy, I am more of a small town country guy. I don't mind the big city just wasn't for me. So I moved back to the MS Gulf Coast. Then stopped working out because just got super busy trying to get back into school, finding a job, and just life in general. I know nothing like a big long excuses to make your heart feel good...haha. I never really felt big just out of shape until the other day I was getting dressed and my cloths felt tight. I then realized I needed to do something about how the way I looked and felt. Way back in highschool I did alot of MTBing. I had a gary fisher marlin with a few upgrades. So I have some biking in the portfolio. Until one day a bunch of my friends and my dad went to hit the local trails. Of course you get a bunch of guys together it becomes who is faster who can jump higher blah blah blah kind of thing right? So we are all showing off and doing stupid things. You probably have a good idea whats about to happened. I am going down this trail fast and my front tire hits a soft spot with a root under it. Down I go in a hurry I fall on my arm and break it against a root ( the same arm I will break again playing football in 4 months) nothing like hearing your bones break. The bike goes down the hill hitting trees things are flying off. The damage one broke arm with some brusing and cuts, the bike not so lucky bent frame the front wheel came off and the saddle got thrown off. It was a awesome walk back to the truck carrying my bike. So that ended my bike career or I guess stalled. Now to the present I am looking for ways to get back into shape and have fun doing it. I really had no idea what to do. One day my dad wanted to get a new bike saddle for his trek mtb. So we go up to one of the local bike shop that only sells Specialized and Cervelo. I see those sweet P series cervelos and the transition bikes from specialized. I got looking I was like what are they used for (i know what a noobie thought right)! So I get home and saw that they were for tris. I get to searching and find this site. I get to researching to see if this would be a good idea for me. Then I see the clydesdale section was like huh they have those classes?? Then that really got me interstead in doing this. I started looking at doing this more and realized I could do this. Then the reading began alot of reading just making sure this something I wanted to do and not something I liked the idea of doing. This is something I wanted to do and had the resources to accomplish this goal. So I started training softly you know i don't wanna over train and burnout then quit. I am getting fitted for some running shoes here soon. My neighbor has a pool I can swim in whenever I want. The bike bit I am going back to that bike shop I mentioned above cause I can get a discount there. Also the last time I was there the folks were nice they didn't look at me different because of my size. I plan on going back there and getting fitted for a bike. I am going to do maybe 3 races this season Heat Wave in June, Sandestin in August, and Heritage Eagleman in Hattiesburg in Nov. They all are sprinit races. Thats about it I figure it was about time for me to say heller! |

Thats about it I figure it was about time for me to say heller! Hi Chris....you are on the right track...and came to the very best site! I started as a 200 lb triathlete and have lost 50 lbs! this is a great community with a wealth of information...as QueenZipp mentioned there are mentor groups who are great for inspiration and commradery and there are monthly challenges that keep you on track when you feel like you are straying....and tons of other sources such as nutrition....make sure to navigate around the site...ask lots of questions and DONT BE A STRANGER...hop in and go for the gusto! you will soon be a triathlete and having fun as well as losing weight...good for you for realizing not to burn out...take it slow and steady and I suggest going to the mentors groups and picking one of the open groups...it is a great way to meet others both new and seasoned triathletes....good luck...obtw...I raced mtn bikes and can not begin to tell you the amount of times I wrecked...I was mainly a downhill racer...I am glad that you did not call it quits completely and are taking the bull by the you know what and giving it another |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Welcome to the site...there are lots of friendly and helpful people here. I watched a little southern miss - troy football last night. Good game, but not great for your side. I know someone mentioned it, but a mentor group would be a great way to get motivated and develop some relationships here. This site can be addictive, so be careful. |
