Subject: RE: Lakefront Days Triathlon at Cleary LakeFor me, it is all based on the temp. If it is cool like Buffalo was this year, I hardly need any hydration during a sprint. Maybe a shot of water at each transition and a gel on the bike, but I bet I could even get by without that. If it is 80 and sun, I make sure to have some gatorade at each transition AND on the bike. I'm also a fan of the "2nd breakfast"... a banana or Clif Bar and a gel just prior to the pre-race meeting.
I did Lakefront 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. It is laid back and a little smaller. They had lots of volunteers and it seemed pretty well run. I wasn't a fan of Cleary Lake -- it was murky -- but I recall it being a shorter swim. One note - when I did this race, they deemed the water too warm to use wetsuits. Be sure you can do the OWS without a wetsuit if needed.
I recall it being a decent bike course and a real nice run course through a county park.
Overall, though, good race, and I'd definately do it again someday if it fit into my schedule. Edited by Hazelmn 2009-06-21 5:31 PM
