Subject: RE: Bike routes in NewportI live in Portsmouth now. Honestly.... if its a nice day out, avoid Newport for a training ride. The traffic can be just horrendous. I would try and go out early. Getting a 3 hour long ride on the island can be tough. Doing Jamestown is also nice (See attached file ) Let me know what hotel you are at and I can give you a route. Basically do the following: - Head south towards ocean drive...
- Follow the loop around till the corner of Bellevue and Memorial.
- Left on Memorial heading north towards the beaches
- Bear right at the ABC (Atlantic Beach Club)
- Bear right just past the surfers at second beach
- Head toward the point and loop around.
- Make a right onto Hanging Rock Road
- Follow Hanging Rock to Indian Ave to Old Mill La
- Left on Old Mill to Wapping Rd
- Right on Wapping Rd
- Follow Wapping Rd to Sandy Point Rd
- Optional: Make a right onto Sandy Point and head to the beach and do hill repeats
- Head back down Wapping Rd until a stop sign at Wyatt Rd
- Left onto Wyatt Rd
- Left onto Berkely Ave
- Go straight at the intersection of Berkely and Green End
- Becomes Paradise Ave
- Follow Paradise Ave up Purgatory hill and back down past ABC
- Make left onto Memorial and back up to Bellevue
- Option: Turn right and do Ocean Dr loop again.
Should end up being almost 40 miles depending on where your hotel is. The route avoids the two really dangerous roads, East Main and West Main. Attachments ---------------- nbw038-rhodyroundup.pdf (47KB - 10 downloads) |
