What's the old saying about riding a bike?  I hopped on my new, cheap Schwinn for a test ride around my rather hilly neighborhood.  Two and a half miles later, my quads burned and I was sucking wind.  This biking thing is hard.

Thus endeth the whine.  Tomorrow morning I suck it up and start putting on the miles.

The great thing about something being ridiculously hard is that you will most likely improve at a greater rate than you would if you were in better shape.

Use these tough workouts now as mental training - learn to love the pain, and if nothing else, think of how much better you feel when you finish.

I've always thought that (in any area of life), one reason why really tough things are so worthwhile is that the relief you feel after finishing is always proportional to the difficulty of the task.

Hang in there, and enjoy the relief!

X2 Like the one thing I remember Sgt Long (Airborne Ranger) from bootcamp saying "Ladies, the good news is; Once you are done you will never have to prove anything to anyone ever again, the bad news is you will have to prove it to me"
Push on you can do this!

Good for you for wanting to continue.

Now, the proverbial "Suck it up, Buttercup" needs to be stated.

News flash. As Greg Lemond said, "It doesn't get easier, you just go faster."

Good start, now stick with it. Consistency in the early stages is key, gradually build your time on the bike until you've got a deecent volume and you'll see great improvement.

Buttercup sucked it up.  Thanks everyone.

I did a bike path circuit that was just over 16 miles.  Some hills and long, slow inclines.  As I got to the end, a little voice in my head was saying "do another lap."  But once was enough.  And I did another 3.5 miles after realizing my car had been towed.  Heavy sigh.

I need to work more on my gear shifting.  It has been way too long.  I feel pretty good.  Knees are sore.  I feel like someone took a ping pong paddle to my ... an hour or so in the saddle was a new experience.

Appreciate the support.
