I'm considering my first trail run in a few weeks. I was looking at some running club trail run pics and a lot of them were wearing Camel Packs. For those of you who have done trail runs, do you think this is a good idea? It looked like people were carrying their own hydration, as opposed to road races where people don't as much.

What do you do?

I guess it depends on the length of trail run, weather and if there are any aid stations.  If it was a 5 mile trail run with temps that weren't all that hot I wouldn't bother.  When I did a trail marathon last year I used it as aid stations were between 4 and 7 miles apart, so I carried my water and nutrition and felt it was necessary, but would eat and drink some of the offerings at the aid stations.  Some of the longer trail runs require runners to carry something for hydration and I find the Camelbak on my waste is mush easier then a handheld water bottle, but that's actually what a majority of the runners seemed to use at the trail mary I did and a good chunk of those folks were actually doing the 50 miler so it worked for them.  I just don't like carrying things in my hand.

REI has a lot of different hydration systems thou you may be able to find prices cheaper elsewhere:  http://www.rei.com/category/4500188

I'm a "big drinker" when I run, especially if it's hot out. On my trail runs I carry a waist pack style Camelbak with 2 Amphipod bottles containing sports drink (for longer runs). I like the waist pack because I find that shoulder straps rub when I run. The Camelbak carries 45 oz of fluid. Having my own fluids makes a huge difference for me.

I'm also looking into the Inov-8 waist pack which carries 2 liters (67 0z) of fluid.

I forgot to mention the Amphipod bottles, it's a great combo.   I added two Pods to my Camelbak and carry Infinit for my nutrition on long runs.

I use a fuel belt.  Usually it's much hotter and humid around here in the summer, but I haven't actually needed it this summer, but it was sure nice to have it.

I was looking at Camelbaks's and was wondering whether to get a 50 oz, 70 oz, or 100 oz. I'm leaning toward the 70. Also, does it take a lot of practice to get used to running with it, or not really?
