Hey all

So I just relocated to Alpharetta to start my first REAL job (E*Trade!) and am already suffering from lack of groups to work out with. Im used to Athens, where it seems everyone in the town bikes to some degree and the town is very exercise friendly (lots of bike lanes for instance). I have already joined Lifetime Fittness and love it, but was wondering if there were any local clubs or cycling groups I could get involved in. Now granted Lifetime has a group ride once a week, but I would much rather find a club or cycling group I could get involved with for the long run. Any suggestions? Or am I forced to drive to Atlanta for any type of club?

LTF actually has 3 group rides a week (Tues, Sat and Sun).  Close to you is Reality Bikes and they have a Wed night ride.  Bike Roswell http://bikeroswell.com/ does a Thursday night ride from Riverside Park and a Saturday ride from Roswell Area Park..  There also North Atlanta Multi Sport Club who also does a Tuesday ride and has monthly meetings and social events http://www.northatlantamultisport.org/.  Dunwoody Cycling also has lots of group rides http://dunwoodycycling.com/.  Also, keep checking the GA Forum here on BT as lots of group workouts are posted.

I live just minutes away from that LTF on North Point. Recently, I have been hitting the SCT for flats/long rides training on Saturday's, and I do my long runs on Sundays. I might start hitting the Greenway soon, so you are always welcome to join.

Congratulations on your job .

Ditto everything Lisa said.

As far as the Life Time clubs go... not sure why you'd rule them out as something you could be involved in for the long run.  The Life Time Alpharetta Cycle Club was started two years ago and it's almost 200 people strong with very well attended rides.  The weekend rides go on all year, though they definitely thin out in the colder months.  The Tuesday night ride ends once it starts getting dark earlier.

At the Johns Creek Life Time (only 7 miles from the Alpharetta location), there's a group swim on Tuesdays/Thursdays at 5 AM.  Most folks that swim at that time are triathletes and there's usually anywhere from 12 to 20 athletes in the pool at that time.  There are also Saturday morning run club runs at both Alpharetta and Johns Creek (Alpharetta also has a Tuesday night run).  Johns Creek's run club is generally training for specific distances/races, but all are welcome and again, it's well attended.

All of these things are free to members.

Ditto what Mila and Lisa said ... I was hesitant to ride with the LTF folks as I thought that a gym organized ride would be too "pedestrian" but found it to be a relatively challenging course with some pretty strong riders.

Further, unlike the majority of roadie group rides, it is tri-bike friendly.

I would recommend it.

Like a dagger to the heart!  When has the founder of said cycle club done something "pedestrian"?!

Glad you tried it.  Just you wait 'til you see what's in store at the new digs.

Yeah, I heard that regional endurance chick has a thing soft spot in her cold little heart for triathletes .
