Savannah
Subject: Savannah Tri series?
Has anyone done any of the Savannah Sprint Tri series events? I'm thinking about the one in October, and just wondered how the production / race course was.

Thanks.

I did it last june. Pretty much a smaller race, but well organized. The course is super flat and fast. I would reccommend it

i did the october one last year. the water was cold but totally doable without a wetsuit if you have courage. cornelius is right, the run and ride were flat and not too much competition if you want to podium. but it is kind of low key and geared to the savannah tri community.

the weird thing i remember was the soaking wet marshes for transition and awards ceremony and all the locals warning of a water moccasin.

I did the last one (and helped out at one of the others).

The swim is a 500 meter inverted triangle in a small lake (it's done in 3 waves - males, females, novice, and it's a water start). The water isn't clear, but it's not bad.

The bike is a completely flat 16 mile single loop that goes on some of the less travelled roads around the area (the race is about a 30 minute drive from downtown Savannah). There only about 3 or 4 turns I think, and there are cops at each intersection.

The run is a 5k entirely within L Scott Stell Park, and is two loops, also completely flat and mostly on pathways, so it winds around a fair amount. (you run past the transition area like 4 times, so it's great for spectators).

The race is nothing too fancy, but the guy who puts it on has done it several times now, so it seems to run pretty smooth. I had a lot of fun, but I knew a bunch of people out there from training so I might have been a little biased by that.

I'm planning on being out there again for this one in October.

The transition was on pavement this year...I didn't see it last year.
