I've just started getting into the trail/ultra running within the past year.  We encounter so much beauty in our surroundings when we do our training and racing on the trails.  I have noticed that many people attach pictures to their race reports or have pictures on their blogs from their races.

I have gone looking for the smallest and lightest digital camera that I can find and would feel comfortable carrying with me on runs.  I have an out of state race next weekend and was really hoping to have a new camera to take with me.  I have been completely dissappointed in what I've found.  I expected to find something VERY small.  I don't need, nor want, all the bells and whistles.  I just want to carry it with me on my runs and capture some of the scenery.

Does anyone here cary a camera?  Or can make a recommendation?

The Olympus SW series is the only camera I found during my search that made me comfortable taking it outdoors. Since I've had mine, I've taken pictures in places where other people left there camera behind. Not the smallest or lightest, but definitely the most rugged. It will stand up to what ever you want to do to it.

The only time I've had it fail on me was during a polar bear plunge. Apparently water temps at freezing exceed it's operating range. But to be honest, they exceeded my operating range as well, so not real concerned.

Phone? Some of the latest cell phones have some great quality cameras built in. Personally I am shopping the Ipod Nano and I think the latest version has a camera built in that is about as small as you can get and it plays music.

Check this out. My cousin had one when we went down the black canyon and it took great video and still shots.
