Sunny
Total Time = 2h 37m 21s
Overall Rank = 151/
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 10/55
Pre-race routine:

Date: 7-13-05:
Pre-Race Goals: Mini-Taper. I am hoping to be top 10 in my AG. I want to swim smoothly, bike strongly, and run swiftly.

My goals going in for this race from a speed perspective:

Swim 30'
T1 2'
Bike 69'
T2 2'
Run 43'
Total 146'
Time Goal 2:26
We'll see, this is agressive

Event warmup:

I did a little swimmy in the lake and light stretching.
Swim
  • 32m 39s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Longest open water swim for me w/o a wetsuit. I took it slow and I swam slow.
What would you do differently?:

I struggled to swim smoothly or fast without a wetsuit. I still have a long way to go to become a good swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

I think I was great in transition and was one of the faster ones in my
AG
What would you do differently?:

Not a dang thing
Bike
  • 1h 10m 11s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Great course, with nice rollers, and plenty of trees and shade throughout. Some fun turns that made it a challenge. I almost "bit it" on one of the turns that I took too fast, but somehow righted the bike and avoided disaster.
What would you do differently?:

I probably pushed too heavy a gear early on the bike. It may have given me a better bike split, but, combined with the heat, may have cost me on the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

I flew through transition
What would you do differently?:

Just need a little more work slipping my dainty little feet comfortably into my bike shoes.
Run
  • 51m 12s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

It was mid day and the heat on the asphalt was probably 120 degrees. The fact that I pushed hard on the bike, and the heat slowed me considerably. I was one of the late waves, so the heat really nailed me.
What would you do differently?:

Go easier on the bike section.
If I am going to compete in EXTREME HEAT, then I would need to dedicate some training to mimic those conditions.

The Heat

Event comments:

This was my first Olympic Triathlon, and in my hometown of Minneapolis. I enjoyed being there very much, and am grateful I finished in the top 10 in my Age Grouping.

It was real hot out there. Good job on the run, in that heat. I couldn't maintain that pace, my run was horrible.

Good race in the heat!!  Wow, that was your shortest report   So what took you to the twin cities for a race?  Where you live must be driving distance to 10 tris every weekend!

Hey!  With pictures too!  Now that I've done an Oly too, I have a better appreciation for that time!  I was a lucky early wave starter - but I sure saw people suffering behind me in the heat!  Great job!
