Anyone else have this on their plan for 2011? Anyone done it in the past--seems like it's a decent race, from what little I've heard.

I did it in 2006 and I thought it was a good race, but they have moved it from Toledo to Michigan somewhere.  I hear the roads are bad on the new route I'd ask someoen in MI about it.

Thanks for the heads up...I heard that too, but I also think I've heard that since then the roads are better. I'll look into it more though.

The roads have there spots that are real rough and some areas that have had chip seal done in the last year or two.  I've rode a lot worse.  If winds blow out of an easterly direction the swim can be a real challenge as Erie can become choppy real quick.  Roads are basically in open farm flat lands so wind can become an issue.  Run is in the state park on a nice paved trail which is in some open areas and a marshy treed area with plenty of shade but not much of a breeze which only becomes an issue if it's real hot like 2008 (i think).

Plenty of hotels close to the park and places to eat or you can camp at the park and be right there.  If you stay in hotel you can easily get to transition right when it opens, get a primo rack spot as there in rows and there may be 21 bikes in the row and it's first come first served, return to the hotel for a snack, shower, etc then return for race time.  Theres a ton of parking so it isn't an issue to get back.  They usually close transition 30 or so minutes before the first wave.  Half race starts first with separate mens and womens waves.

I raced in 2009. It was my first 1/2. The roads are in good shape for the most part but there is one or two bad areas. Great race overall and a great place to have the race at. I would do it this year but I am training for Ironman Florida and too early in the season. Another good part is the cost. I think it is about 150. The run is on the trails in the park so a great setting the the race.
