We (my wife and I) have decided that we are going to the Outerbanks for our vacation (instead of doing the ocean and mountain NC vacation).

We need some recommendations of where to stay.

So please let us know where to go.

Check out www.vrbo.com and search by state, then by location.  VRBO is cool because you can usually get a nice place a bit cheaper by renting directly from the owner.

Anyway, Duck and Corolla are nice....quieter.  There is a paved trail through Duck that goes a long ways - good for running.  I stayed for a week in Duck last year and thought it was great!

Good luck!

If you want a "non touristy" version of the Outer Banks, go to the bottom part.  We went to Beufort (southern tip) and had a BLAST on Ocracoke.  I would suggest those.

I also reccommend the southern Outer Banks, The towns on Bogue Bank are a bit less touristy than up north.....Atlantic Beach, Salter Path, Indian Beach, Emerald Isle. etc.

I also vote for Ocracoke. It's a great island; takes a little extra planning beacuse you have to take a ferry over but it's worth it.

I agree. Ditch the beige, strip malled, neon signs and puking college kids of Upper OBX and go straight to Ocracoke. Renting a house is a great idea. Ocracoke Island Realty will hook you up.
I'll be there in September.
