I'm thinking I will go ahead and void the warrantee on my phone and get into the software and get rid of all the preloaded apps they don't allow you to remove under normal use.

Anyone know how to do this?  I have a sprint and they have the blockbuster app, Qik, nascar, football, a navigation app, etc.  Running out of space and don't ever use these.

I've never done it, but be aware that uninstalling some of the pre-installed apps can cause very bad things to happen (like, apparently you should never, ever, remove GoogleChat or 'IMPlugins'). "Bad" being defined as crashing your phone on boot. You likely will want to first try "freezing" an app for a few days before actually removing it.

If you just search teh internets for "android root EVO" you should be able to find a bunch of utilities, walkthroughs, and probably even several newbie friendly tutorials that, as long as you follow them explicitly, should get you where you want to be.

I had looked into rooting my HTC Rezound because I wanted to be able to enable WiFi Hotspots without paying the ransom; instead of going that route, I just decided to use the free FoxFi app.

Kido, please be aware that rooting your phone with Sprint does not invalidate the warranty, though depending on the model (old evo like mine), it may be out of warranty already.  There are many articles out there on how to root the phone, and there have been some with links to the place on the sprint site where they explicitly say it does not void the warranty and if someone brings in their phone in a state that appears rooted that they are to just restore the image back to it's factory state, kind of a "don't ask don't tell".  I'll see if I can find the sprint page to put your mind at ease.

Here are the links to the policy of Sprint regarding rooting your phone.

PS.  Please note, I have not rooted my phone as I haven't had time to do so.  By boss did root his EVO and loves the fact that he now has full control over everything.  Highly recommended by him.
