Swim
Comments: First open water swim, stayed at back to let everyone in the wave get in the water. After getting kicked and elbowed and trying to apologize for kicking another, I finally understood that this was just a normal part of the swim. What would you do differently?: About half way in found my groove wasn't suprised to kick or get kicked or run over or vice versa. What a crazy sport ! Tons of fun, I know I will do better next time, I believe I could shave 30 seconds to a minute just by starting on time and keep my freestyle stroke instead of breast to avoid other swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: Transition time here was about 5 minutes. They were not separated from our bike and run times, but I timed my bike with my speedometer and the listed bike time was approx 4.5 to 5 minutes over. The hill to the transition area caught me out of breath and I walked a little bit to catch it. My bike was in the back of the transition area instead of getting up front where we were to go. Also, initially went to wrong row in the transition area, I did not have glasses on so I really have to rely on counting the racks and identifying landmarks. What would you do differently?: Next time save some seconds by arriving early and getting a good rack spot. For the next race I am going to learn how to clip my boots in my bike put them on while riding. Running on cement is not fun. Bike
Comments: Good Bike ride for me. I have not been practicing my bike as much, trouble riding in the city. Over the time have found some better longer uninterrupted courses. I was horrible on the hills ! What would you do differently?: Practice hills, and longer steadier runs. Transition 2
Comments: Running with bike shoes on is slow. Had trouble tying shoes. No trouble finding rack spot. Racked bike backwards and had to readjust. What would you do differently?: Get the elastic laces that do not require tying. Learn how to take feet out of shoes while riding bike. Stick with racking the bike on the seat stem the way it worked the first time. Run
Comments: I did not have anything left after the bike. My mind wanted to move my body but it was not happening. This is the wierdest feeling I have ever had. I have been tired before but not to the point where I couldn't work past/through it. I tried slowing down to regain some energy but I didn't find any. I also remember the gatorade I was going to have before the race and didn't. What would you do differently?: Drink gatorade on the bike instead of water. Do some bricks. This was my weakest event, my legs did not have the power to go through this part. Running is my weakest event. Running is getting the most time on the next training block. Post race
Warm down: I jogged with my wife while she was finishing. I did some walking. Should have done some more cool down type work. What limited your ability to perform faster: First event, transitions can be improved, I can see where 30 seconds to a minute makes a big difference. Looking back at all the little things that eat that time. Then training on my weak event and eating. My weight is high and I continue to lower it as I go. I still have approx 40-50 lbs to go. Event comments: Subaru puts on a good event. Last updated: 2004-06-29 12:00 AM

Arrived late, car trouble. Rushed around getting set up. Luckily there were no line ups for registration...was racked, registered and ready to go in about 15 minutes.
Sam 1-200 metres then stretched for 10 minutes or so.
