I'm a MOP (long course) 52 y.o. doing a HIM and an IM this year. Point being, I'm not too worried about a couple extra seconds in T1/T2 if the consensus is pure cycling shoes will serve me best. I'm gonna be wearing them a LOT (training), so comfort is somewhat king. I have tri-specific shoes, if I decide to do anything short. Thanks. |

I know you say MOP, I also see you want comfort, so this recommendation is probably not for you, but I think if you are going to spend $200 on shoes and want comfort I would at least make sure they have as few strap as possible. I actually found got a quite a lot in my own testing: http://www.thomasgerlach.com/2016/05/fastest-ironman-bike-shoes-aer... |

FYI, it can take time to get comfortable in a new pair of shoes. I really struggled with comfort on the last pair for the first couple weeks. I've always raced with regular bike shoes and have no problem getting out of them prior to the dismount, though I always put them on before leaving T1. |

Are they really comfortable....with no tongue? Thanks. I think for what I do, it is important to note that I wouldn't ride anything else unless I found something faster. I think it is also important to note that I ride my commuter road bike most of the miles in trainer. It has 42mm tires, and baskets, and I have a pair of Shimano MTB shoes with 3 straps. They are Shimano's cheapest shoe but probably one of my favorite shoes off all time. When it comes down to it, it really is all about goals. Personally, if I was just in triathlon for fun and enjoyment I would probably use my commuter road bike with 42mm. It is so comfy and a joy to ride compared to my TT bike, but it is super slow too. Is cutting out a tongue more comfortable than not. Probably not, but then again, I don't really really think having the tongue removed is uncomfortable either. |
