Total Time = 1h 00m 22s
Overall Rank = 188/276
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 17/36
Pre-race routine:

got up around 6 AM, showeed and had breakfast. DH decided to stay home and do schoolwork which had me a bit pissed off because some race day support is ALWAYS welcome. Got to the site early and walked around looking for the portapotties--finally found them...stretched out. I was unwilling to part with my sweatshirt until close to race time because I was cold...The kids mascot mile run was cute to watch. One guy lost his shoes running in and kept going!
Event warmup:

AFF staff led us in some squats and jumping jacks before sending us to the start line up (where we waited another 10 minutes to start)
Run
  • 1h 00m 22s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Overall happy with the race, I was just under a minute slower than my spring 10 K with a harder course and the ipod battery is dying so I didn't have my tempo music so it's all good
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, looked for Lisa (she finished about 6-7 minutes back of me), enjoyed the fruit and water provided for us. Lisa and I hung out and talked for a while

What limited your ability to perform faster:

side stitch from startng out a bit fast (9 min miles)

Event comments:

this was a good race, I kept the same pace as most of my other stand alone runs which means I need to learn how to get beyond this pace

Performance: Good
Started out a bit faster than I wanted and had to drop back around mile 3 with a side stitch. That was also the spot where the volunteers weren't ready with water and when she did give me a cup it was spilled before getting to me so I only got a small sip...There was a hill between mile 3 and 4 which was a bear with my side stitch. That was also where the traffic started to get IMPATIENT at lights waiting for the go ahead by the wonderful Richmond Police. Got some encouragement form the volunteers between miles 4-5 and then the early finishers started encouraging us at mile 5-6 so it was a good kick in the last mile

VEry nice run this morning!!  Congrats.  Our race was a bit chilly to, but I wore black long sleeved shirt and got to hot towards the end. We need to plan a race that we can do together.

Good looking run.  I know a goal is sub 30 5K's.  That is close to two back to back.  When we got up it was 33 degrees so I know what you mean about holding that sweatshirt.

My little guy was coming in off the 4 mile run course.  It's a little hard to think he did the whole 4-miles but who knows.  He was a happy camper and that what's important.

"Plug in iPod" will have to go on your race check list.

dexter,

problem was the ipod WAS plugged in at home, the battery seems to be going on it so we have to figure out how to replace it (is it one that's replaced?) I only had a 45 min drive to the race site so it shouldn't have died that soon on a full charge (it's been in the charger for days)  It works out to :47 seconds longer than the Monument race in the spring and Monument is completely flat
