There is a lot of great music out there that doesn't get air play.  What is a favorite song of yours that most of the rest of us have probably never heard?

I'll start off:

   The Band: Hot House Flowers

   The Song:  Movies

oh good!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Carrie- really smart lyrics, she's a Quaker, and her live shows feel like what I think church should feel like.

Almost anything by Greg Brown, Paul Curreri, Kelly Joe Phelps, and Lucinda Williams (though her song "Essence" got airplay a few years ago).

Greg: Let Me Be Your Gigolo, Oh You, Vivid, Smell of Coffee

Kelly Joe Phelps: Little Jimmy and Jehososphat, Slingshot Professionals

Lucinda: Changed the Locks, Get Right with God, Essence

Oh, and two that probably do get airtime, just not here: india.arie and Melissa Etheridge. I think the entire CD Acoustic Soul should be required listening for girls ages 10-15. Well, maybe not the 'Brown Skin' or I'm Ready for Love" songs, but everything else: Video, Strength Courage and Wisdom, Kept You Word--great stuff.

And Melissa Etheridge just rocked. I'm listening to "Brave and Crazy" a lot right now. You Can Sleep While I Drive, Brave and Crazy, Skin Deep, Testify.

Brand New Heavies: CD is Shelter--Gotta Do Right, Shelter, Stay Gone

Ok, bake to stringing Christmas lights. Good one, John!!

I miss Small Brown Bike so much. Only got to see them once I can't really only get into Stretch Arm Strong's Rituals of Life though. Their other studd doesn't do much for me.

I'll add:

Bane (except The Note)
Hot Water Music
The Explosion
Shai Hulud
The Casket Lottery
Paint it Black
Dinosaur Jr.

that Small Brown Bike/Casket Lottery split is probably the best stuff either band has put out. I am going to listen to it now.

For something a little different, anything by Marc Broussard.  "Rocksteady" and "Home" are two of his better songs.
