Subject: RE: Chisago Lakes Sprint Triathlon : Official ThreadI'm not an expert on nutrition, but during the Kansas HIM last weekend, I gauged my nutrition on the weather. It was warm, with little to no humidity for race day. I used Hammer's endrolytes (3 capsules before the bike ) for elctrolytes, gatoraide (about 4 16 oz. bottles ) and water on the ride, and Cliff blocks (margrita as I personally need extra salt as I'm a sweater and big guy ). I also found eating some small chunks of cut up beef sticks helped (protein, more sodium, and was different then all the sugar stuff I was taking in ). I tried to spread the intake over the entire ride, as your body can only absorb so much per hour when you are intensely working out. Over nutrition will also create gastrointenstinal issues. I experimented on my long rides to see how I felt with ingesting the different items. But, you also have to remember the 13 mile run after the bike. Also, be ready to adjust given the weather, warmer = more sweat which means more fluids and more eletrolytes. |
