does anyone use a rear-wheel cadence counter? If so which one? I think that's my next toy since I am actually using my trainer these days.

Speaking of trainer, my rear tire went flat and I never noticed. Apparently the valve was not screwed in all the way. But I did notice that there didn't seem to be enough resistance on the wheel so I cranked it down a notch. Well, with no air in the tire, all I did was managed to destroy a perfectly good tire.

Lesson learned: check tires frequently, even when only using the trainer.

Sorry you trashed a tire...they're not cheap.
I use a VDO sprint plus bike computer. I haven't had any problems with it so far (almost 2 years) and the buttons are easy to push when you are on the road (including bumpy rides)

I had a VETTA computer with the cadence counter on it. It was a useful tool to have. It did not fair my bike accident very well, and it had to be trashed. Now I just peddle like hell and call it good! Jack.

I have a cateye, with a cadance counter on it. I use it more then the speedometer. If I am going up a hill, I shift to keep a good cadance, and don't worry about the speed. I'll make that up on the way down. I like mine, but I have been having some problems, with the candance or speed stopping in the middle of a work out. In my half Iron distance, I did the last miles without. I thinkt that the rain, and or sweat is getting in it. The next time I ride it works again. I'll have to get it checked out before the spring season starts.

I also have a cateye and love it.  I rarely look at the speed anymore.  Only did one sprint tri since I got it, but even then I kept it on cadence to assure me I'd be in a comfortable gear with a cadence in the 90's (my sweet spot).
