Subject: Nose Plug
This might be a dumb question but I saw a guy in the 100 backstroke (lane 1, but don't have his name) wearing a nose plug.  Why?  you would think at this point in his swimming career this would not be necessary.  Is there a medical reason possibly?

When swimming on your back, if you don't exhale through your nose, water goes up it. Since the swimmers go so far underwater, it's probably a tool to allow the swimmer to accomplish that while conserving oxygen (e.g. no having to blow out).

May be medical condition. There was a top girl in our school swim team who needed to wear a nose plug.  She got infection easily.

random, but i thought i noticed on the flash back coverage that kirsty coventry wore one in athens but she's not wearing one now.
