Subject: Good book for DIY bike wrenching?

As kids (in the 70s), my brothers and I loved taking apart and working on our (cheapo) road bikes.  We had an awesome book that went into great detail on each component: how to take it apart, clean it, reassemble it, or replace it.  (Of course I've forgotten the title, LOL.)

Can anyone recommend such a reference book (or books) for today's road bikes?  I want to start doing all my repairs and tune-ups myself, for one.  And secondly, I plan to build up a touring/commuter bike from scratch, and would like any advice on where to begin my re-education.

Park Tools makes a decent "bible" for wrenching. It's only about $20 or so, IIRC.

Most bearing assemblies today are sealed cartridges, so there's no need to rebuild, only to replace. Working on bikes is fun. I'm on build #4 myself.

Lots of resources online...park tools website...bicycle tutor...etc.

If you want a book, I'll recommend Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance.  There is also Zinn and the Art of Mountian Bike Maintenance....maybe other versions too.

I have the Zinn book.  It saved my butt one day when I was having trouble with my brakes but had no time to take the bike to the shop.

The only critique I have is that sometimes it is hard to use the drawings in the book...they don't always look exactly like what you are working on and lack "depth".

If/when I get serious about fixing my own bike I plan on having a "pro" show me stuff first.  That way when I go to look at the book to repeat the task later stuff will hopefully come back to me.  But I think if I just read the book I wouldn't get very far.

Built a tri bike piece by piece using Zinn.  Most I had ever done before that was lube up the chain.
