Subject: Why we do three
Boss handed me this article and told me to keep running.   The article describe how elite cyclist have poor bone density.  It did point out that triathletes usually improve bone density over their seasons.

Interesting article.  May have something to do with the intense exercise.  Mr Smathers the man interviewed said intense cyclists are a little different.  Sounds like more research is needed.

My doc has always said that I needed weight-bearing activity to help prevent a loss of bone density, and that while swimming was great exercise, it didn't cut it for helping to prevent or delay the onset of osteoporosis (sp?).  My guess is that cycling is in the same category.

I've always suspected I have heavy bones. In fact, I recently found about some genetic disease called "Marble Bone disease" that kinda fits what I have. Never been tested for it though.
My bones are dense enough, thank you!

I have read this before as well.  Higher risk of osteoporosis for big time cyclists due to all the non-weight bearing activity...they shouldn't have used the guy on a tri bike as the pic on the NY times article though!  Theoretically his bones should be all good
