Subject: Need Routes in/around Frisco
Hello Colorado Neighbors

Next weekend we're heading out to Frisco for the week on vacation.  I haven't actually stayed and ridden in that area in 10 years (and even then I didn't know the area very well at all)

Can anyone recommend some routes around there for my husband to catch some rides?
(I'm still pole dancing with a crutch... so no riding for me )

I've been looking at some routes heading out and south on hwy 9.  I've actually ridden Swan Mtn Rd... wondering what traffic has built up to in Dillon to just have him do the loop around the lake.  Afraid that maybe the trail heading up to Aspen is too recreational and not roadie friendly.  How is it?
As well, I can't remember where to catch it in Frisco.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS

Trail to Aspen?  Do you mean Copper or Vail maybe?  Aspen is 2 hours by car away from Frisco.  I've had great rides on the trail to Copper/Vail Pass and I know Breckview uses it regularly.

Yep that's the trail... I think there's a way that it links up to another that heads west/southwest down to Aspen... not sure, it's all info from my sis who IS NOT a rider.

Glad to know that the trail is kind to roadies.
Do you know where to catch it?

THANKS

Next weekend we're heading out to Frisco for the week on vacation...

There is exactly one BTer who rides these routes every day and that's me. And, I answered all these questions about a week ago in a PM reply to you. The ride from Frisco to Aspen would be about 120 miles each way mostly on roads so I think you're confused.

Again, I have almost every road ride in Summit County mapped on this site in the "Routes" section. Just search on Breckenridge or Frisco or Dillon to find them. Every one is either on a bike path that is perfect for serious road training or low traffic/speed roads that are safe for riding.

Thanks... but I just checked my box again... for some reason it never made it through.

Thanks for keeping your routes here in BT.  I will definitely go search them out

Well that makes more sense. The message isn't in my sentbox either so the site must have eaten it. Anyway, as I recall here is what I wrote:

Our bike path is great for training. I rode a 60 mile ride recently and only passed 23 people riding in my direction. I do most all of my training on the bike path as it's 12 feet wide and perfectly smooth for as many miles are you want to ride. On a busy summer weekend day, it's better to get out early when only serious riders will be out but even at noon on a busy Saturday, the riding is still great on the path.

Here are three routes from near where you'll be staying:

Frisco to Vail Pass and back
--------------------------------

Lake Dillon loop
------------------

I recommend that you ride it clockwise so you can climb Swan Mountain on the bike path. The map above includes a detour on Hwy 6 past Dillon that's no longer necessary as there's a bike path right along the lake shore which is great.

Climb to Montezuma and back
-----------------------------------
http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?route...
This is mostly on a perfectly smooth low traffic/speed road.

As I said, I have almost all the Summit County rides mapped which you can find by searching on Breckenridge, Frisco, or Dillon.

Hope you have fun here!
