I am running my 2nd half marathon on March 6. And, I plan to race a sprint triathlon the first weekend in April. How can I incorporate training for both?

I'm doing the same right now- Pumpkinman Sept 12 and marathon Oct 25.  I keep my long runs for the weekends as that takes the most time for workouts.

At this point, I am simply following my training plan but incorporating my runs for my marathon into my tri plan rather than doing the workouts that are listed for the tri plan.

For example- I am doing a recovery run tonight- 2 miles- but turning it into a brick workout after my bike to get maximum effort.    It helps that I am only running 3x a week too, so that it saves my knees and the bike and swim help with run recovery and building other muscles.

I know this isn't too specific, but this has worked well for me in the past month or so as the plans have really run parallel for training.  Since you have some time, definitely build up your run base before your tri so that it's easier to maintain when you are training for both.

Good luck on both next spring!

I did something similar this past year, using one of the Galloway plans.  I did short runs (30-45 min) on Tuesdays and Thursdays and my long runs on Saturday mornings.

This still let me get in a long bike ride on Sundays.  I reversed it a couple of weekends, doing my ride on Saturday and long run on Sunday, but it was harder on my legs.

Mondays were my rest days and Wednesday and Fridays were 'float' days where I would do a short ride or swim based on my schedule or depending on the weather.  I really didn't do much swimming this past year, but need to work more back in my base schedule since I'm planning on doing the Sarasota half marathon again in March and then St Anthony's in April.

I decide which race is more important when I am in that position.  Than, I focus on the training for the "A" race, rather than the "B" race.

So, what's more important to you?

Get a sprint training plan, eliminate the runs (except for thos after the HM), then combine it with a half marathon training plan.
Easy peasy.

x2 on the Galloway plan!  That's what I'm using and it's awesome.  It has saved my tendinitis from flaring up, keeps my sanity and allows for me to fuel my body properly as I eat when I walk.

Doesn't change my training much at all, as I only run 3 dpw. If I have a running race like a half, I use the FIRST method, which accounts for swimming and biking anyway.
