View Member's Race Log
Wyckoff, NJ
United States
YMCA
70F / 21C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 01m 54s
Overall Rank = 240/494
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 63/131
Pre-race routine:

1 Banana for breakfast with 2 Oatmeal Raisin cookies. Water and a GU shot 30 minutes before the swim. (Should have went to the John too but didnt)
Event warmup:

Stretches and slow swim out to the first marker and back.
Swim
  • 19m 25s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim crowded up around 300-400 yds, made it somewhat difficult. Although I felt really good and felt like I pushed myself I was hoping for a better split.
What would you do differently?:

Dont drink alcohol on the week leading up to the race. I also should have distanced myself more in the begining in order to avoid the bottleneck.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

Once I reached my transition area I was fast. Unfortunately I had a brain fart and didnt remember if I was in the first row or second. I was looking for a 2:00 - 2:30 T1.
What would you do differently?:

Site my area quicker!
Bike
  • 54m 55s
  • 17 miles
  • 18.57 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing! I had cramps in my calves when I got off the bike, maybe it slowed me down some running in and out....So I guess no cramps.
Run
  • 43m 31s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Really need to push myself more on the run. Always worried Im going to bonk, when I know I feel good. This is totally mental.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster, spend the tank. Finish completely empty.
Post race
Warm down:

Porto John...needed to pee since the swim. MAN! what a relief! Hung out afterwards, it was a good time!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Needing to Pee.

Great race- I know what you mean about having to pee after the race. I'm always making a mad dash to the bathroom! And 63 out of 131 is awesome for your age group! Very impressive. Sounds like you had a great race, except you need to go all out on the run next time. Congrats!

Nice job!   I did this race last year and it's a lot of fun (I grew up in Wyckoff and it's a hoot to ride along my old cycling route).

Hope to return in 2006

Thanks...You should definately come back next year! The race was great!

Matt I looked for you before the race during the transition set up, sorry I missed you! My race schedule is pretty dull right now. Im doing a CAT5  Cycling Classic road race in Park Rdige NJ (let me know if your interested, I'll send you the race flier) and then doing the Westchester Tri in Sept....I need races for July and late Aug. Let me know if you know of any.

Hey Jose Great bike split. Your whole race looked great actually. I know what you mean about pushing it harder on the run. I felt that way too after my last race but was worried that I would bonk. I think a lot of people are in the same boat. Now you know what you can do so you learned something for next time.

Congrats,
Jen
