Pre-race routine:

Well, couldn't find the area exactly so I had about 5 minutes to set up everything, get my wetsuit on, and go!
Swim
  • 22m 47s
  • 850 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water was nice, it was like swimming in an 80 degree pool, perfect. My wetsuit was good, however, I had never worn it before, so I felt like it was choking me! I had to talk to my self the whole time, that everything was going to be okay.
What would you do differently?:

Try out a wetsuit and open water swim first!
Transition 1
  • 03m
Comments:

This was bad because I was going to use my swimming chamois to dry off, but I forgot to get it wet and wring it out! So I dried off with a shirt! Bad idea! Umm, and my bike shoes laced and then velcroed (sp?) Next time I would just use the velcro.
What would you do differently?:

Everything I said above. :) Oh yeah, and actually practice one time doing a transition!
Bike
  • 00m
  • 12 miles

Comments:

The course was nice. My butt bones are sore though. My nickname is Moo and while I was biking I was all alone, and there were some cows on the side of the mountain all of a sudden they were all looking at me and one of them said, "Mooooo" Sounds dumb, but I felt like they were cheering me on. Yeah that was dumb.
What would you do differently?:

Build up more strength for the bike ride, it wasn't difficult but I felt like I could've done better. Also, I should've learned how to use the gears. I was in the same one the whole time.
Transition 2
  • 03m
Comments:

Not too shabby. Pulled my running shoes right on with my YANKZ! They worked perfectly! Guzzled some Gatorade and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

Wear actual biking shorts so that my shorts wouldn't ride up on me on the run!
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

This was my fear of the race. However, I think being in racing mode, I somehow ran the whole thing. Actually I should say jogged, cause my legs were like wet noodles.
What would you do differently?:

Wear different shorts for sure!
Post race
Warm down:

Umm, had my first Athsma attack. Although I don't have athsma, I think my body was kinda in shock that it had done all of that and I just stopped. I never really thought of a cool down after a big race like that. How dumb. So I was a little scared, but then I calmed down and was okay!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Proabably not warming up or stretching.

Event comments:

I thought the race was PERFECT for a first timer. There weren't more than 50 or 60 people there. The course was awesome. The only thing was the race director was unorganized and was just yelling out times and it just seemed unorganized. I was very glad to be one of the only first timers there and taking 2nd in my age group. I am definitely addicted!

Way to go!  The water was warm?  I thought Schofield would be cold.  Sounds like you did a terrific job.  You are now at Triathlete!

Aren't you signed up for IMMOO? I thought for some reason that is where you got your ID...nice race anyways. Way to tough out the run.

Nice work Moo! Way to tough out the run.... Apparently I need to check out YANKZ! Putting on my socks and lacing up running shoes killed my time in T1....

They work SO WELL, and they are actually more comfortable than shoelaces!! Definitely, they are only $8. Well worth it!
