Subject: Garmin 305 chest strap only..H2O proof?

Looking to purchase a Garmin 305 forerunner. I realize that the WATCH itself is not waterproof. But what about the HR monitor chest strap?

If I wear the HR chest strap during the swim, and then after the swim in T1 or T2 strap on the watch and hit start will this work? Will the chest strap monitor still function post swim expoure until transition?

More interested in my HR during the bike, and mainly on the run. I don't want to spend time in T1 straping the chest strap on.

Thanks

I have both Forerunner 305 & Edge 305.  Officially Garmin does not say the 305 Hr strap is waterproof, but I've worn mine in swims with no probs.  Just make absolutely sure the o-ring seal under the battery compartment cover is greased (silicone) & properly situated (not folded, etc.).

The strap on every Garmin is pretty much the same, I've never had any water related difficulties with mine.  Not from water or from sweat, which is worse for electronics than water.

Another 'me too' to wearing the strap during the swim.

Also - You can set your 305 up for 'mutisport mode' you pick the sports (IE, Bike-Run) and if you want to include a transition and the garmin will record your time and data separately for each leg. You just hit lap to go to the next leg - practice with it on a brick workout so you don't accidentally not record your race data :-)
