Comments: The start was one wave, men and women. the men were actually not very aggressive. It was all women I fought for position with the first 200 yards or so. got kicked once in the nose, and had to swim around a few people who were in front of me but slower than I wanted to go. Once we cleared out, I kept a nice steady pace and tried to hammer it a bit with kicking. I went a little off course from bouy 1 to 2, just veered a little. When I spotted anyone even with me, I tried to speed it up a bit. There's no way that course was 1000 meters, but I did feel I did well. My goal was to do it in 16 min, and I did sub 13....my arms were burning, but the fastest trial I've done in the pool for 1,000 was closer to 15, so I'm sure it wasn't truly 1,000m. What would you do differently?: Be a bit more aggressive at the start to get out of the mess. pick a better start position, more to the outside. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: The T time was included in the run time, but I had my watch on and hit it for splits for the swim/T/run. We ran out of the water, up a rocky area covered with a thin cloth thing. I passed up my stuff (done that twice in a race now), and back tracked to my shoes. got them on, grabbed my nice cotton shirt and ran while putting it on. The woman in my AG who beat me was just ahead of me, so I think I did ok on the transition. What would you do differently?: remember number belt ![]() Run
Comments: rinse the salt water, b/c I usually get a rash. The shirt grew in length and it was like running with a dress on. I bet I looked really dumb. I didn't really have my breath until about 14 min. into the run. I tried to stay with a woman in front of me (my age group winner), but she was too fast. When there was about .5 mile left, I started thinking how great it was I was only passed by a few men, but no women....just then, I swear, a woman came cruising by me (age 33), which made me pick it up a bit. she beat me by 7 seconds, So I held on to her pretty well. the run time includes the transition time, so my actual run time was closer to 24 min. which is what I wanted to do. What would you do differently?: not wear cotton...maybe start slower out of the transition to get my breath. I was coming down with a cold, so overall I feel pleased with this run. I also could feel liquid sloshing in my belly on the run, so I may have had too much to drink, though I only drank 1/2 a gatorade. ![]() Post race
Warm down: got stuff from transition, drank some water, ate a banana, hung out to wait for the awards. hunted down a tshirt since I didn't pick one up when I got there. chatted to some friendly folks. What limited your ability to perform faster: maybe my cold...I felt like I had a good race even though. Event comments: this was a small race. there was everything we needed there, but it wasn't a wowie-race. still, it was good. I plan on killing it in the series next year ;) Last updated: 2005-10-10 12:00 AM

had 2 advil for the sore throat/headache, 1/2 pbj and some gatorade on the drive down. got lost-went about 32 miles out of my way...arrived right at 7:00 a little panicked I wouldn't get my number. It wasn't a big deal. Set up transition area. Shoes, and then b/c I am a dork and forgot my number belt, I had to pin my number to a nice cotton t-shirt.
Swam for about 5-10 minutes to loosen up/warm up. chatted with a few folks.
