Subject: funeral attire?
My great aunt died last night . I'm not sure what to wear to the funeral. I only have a brown suit, is that acceptable attire? I have black dress pants, could I buy a black sports coat to go along with it, would that be acceptable / better than brown?

Sorry about your aunt. It's my opinion that a brown suit is completely acceptable. Black dress pants with a dress shirt I think would be fine too (I don't think you have to have a sports coat). It seems that there is less emphasis on the all black at a funeral now. I'm sure your aunt would appreciate your precense most of all.

I agree. You don't have to wear black to a funeral anymore. I think "conservative and tasteful" would be a nice guideline. Dark colors like navy blue, brown, black, etc. would all work.

If brown suit is dark it should be otay. If it's light (more of a tan), go with the black sports coat.

Sorry about your great aunt's passing.

Sorry to hear that. I lost a great Aunt 4 years ago (she was 100 years old) and I'll always miss her.

Dress nicely and don't worry about it.

What you wear is less important than just being there, honoring a life well-lived.  Just make sure you don't stand out from across the room.  What was her favorite flower?  If it's appropriate, wear one on your lapel.

Sorry to hear about your aunt.  My condolences ...

These days, you can wear pretty much anything as long as it is not too flashy.
