Subject: Any tri shorts with buoyancy?
I am a beginner swimmer competing in my first triathlon in two weeks (.62 mile swim). While I'm confident I will be able to finish it, I am looking for all the help I can get. I haven't purchased my tri shorts yet (wetsuits will not be permitted for this race) so I was looking for advice on any that will provide me with a little extra buoyancy. I've read that the Desoto Riviera tri shorts have a float pad in them. I was curious how effective that was or if there are any similiar styles out there. I'm not too worried about price. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Don't expect any real buoyancy from the float pad... it's really much more about comfort than floatation... basically, a slimmed down version of the 400 mile pad used in DeSoto super-comfy 400 Mile bibs (and shorts I guess). The Forza tri shorts are basically a think flees pad.

The only thing you can use that will potentially help you is a swim skin, but they won't help you with buoyancy, only make you more "slippery" in the water

Anything with true bouyancy, outside of a wetsuit, is going to be banned - sorry.

You could always just get your favorite tri short and sew in some neoprene in them and tell everyone you just have naturally big hips!

You probably don't want buoyancy between our legs only anyway, might end up floating upside down. Just Keep Swimming

Why would you want buoyancy in a pair of shorts?!?

It would just put your head and feet in bad positions for swimming.
Personally I have zero interest in trying to make my rear end come out of the water.
