Subject: Ballot initiatives

There was a ballot referendum in Philadelphia regarding borrowing 126.6 million dollars for capital improvements. In past years I would have just said sure and clicked yes. This year, as soon as I saw it, I thought "Hell no!." Stop borrowing money we don't have.

I voted Democrat (not a straight ticket) but is everyone else regardless of party pretty much fed up with endless borrowing? Or am I the only dummy who believes in paying their bills off ASAP?

Depends.

126M for capital improvements that save money or create revenue is different than 126M for capital improvements that are cosmetic or that will be expensive to maintain.

"We're spending $126M to make efficiency improvements in 24 state buildings that will result in energy savings of $15M per year."   -- Sounds pretty good to me.

"We're spending $126M to make cosmetic improvements to our government buildings."  -- No, you can wait a couple years until the budget is in better shape for that.

We were to bond road improvements, but I voted no. We just bonded a senior center, high school and grammar school 2 yas ago. Somehow, when they were denied bonding for a town auto garage and dog pound, they raided capital projects to get those done.

Ef 'em: they'll nail me no matter what I say. So I'll say no and it'll get stolen anyway.

these knuckleheads in my state seem to have approved every tax/bond increase AND a minimum wage increase. Apparently we are made of money here.

That'll be interesting.  I think the Feds will be told to leave them alone by this administration as a test case. (which IMO is the right call)

If you smoke it, give it a year or so and head for Colorado.....it'll be the best and cheapest weed in the country as the market gets flooded and the price falls through the floor,  thereby negating any big tax gain and ending the call for legalization as a way to pay off debt.
