Subject: To Boston

I have been watching the coverage of the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon closely since Monday.  Today all day long I followed the man hunt for the cowards who committed this horrible crime.   While I cannot say I know how you feel because frankly I have never come close to going through anything like that.  I can say I have shared even if in a small amount your sorrow.  To those who lost loved ones, were injured and the loved ones of the injured.  I am so sorry for your loss our thoughts and prayers are with you.

This post however is not about what the criminals did this post is about Boston.  Boston you have shown the good in humanity.  Among carnage and evil you have shown the world how people are good.  The amount of good that you have demonstrated this week is what I will forever remember about the Boston Marathon Bombing.  I read stories of people opening their homes to runners and visitors on the day of the bombing so that they would have somewhere to go. I read of restaurants giving free food to the displaced "eat here pay if you can". I saw people running to the scene to help.  Strangers helping and comforting the injured. They did this with no thought of their own safety.  They acted selflessly and bravely.

Later as you started to return to normal life I saw and heard the Star Spangled Banner being sung  at a hockey game.  As your hockey fans sang I cried at what I was seeing.  Then today as your city was locked down as the police hunted the suspects I saw you support you police force.  I saw as you stayed in your homes.  Tried to assure you children that all would be fine.  Then tonight I saw you celebrate and cheer for you police as they took the criminal into custody.  Yes Boston I saw you and I saw good.  The last image I remember seeing is a man saluting the police.

As I watch the news coverage I pondered about the good of humanity.  I pondered what I would do in such a situation.  Would I run to the scene to help or would I be afraid and flee.  Would I open my home to strangers so they could be fed worm or just have somewhere to go.  How would I have reacted I do not know.  What I do know is that if I am ever faced with such adversity I can only hope I would be able to respond as the people of Boston responded.  Boston as you saluted the police officers I solute you!  Thank you for showing us way over here in Idaho/Oregon that people are good.  Thank you Boston I will never forget.

Lived there for several years, brother in-law is a native and have many friends and family members as racers. If I were to have a 2nd "hometown" this would be it. Congrats isn't exactly the right word, but certainly kuddo to all Police, EMT, FD etc. involved!

I've never been there, but my wife and I are heading that way in June.  I'm really looking forward to it.

Very well said.  I have visited Boston a few times.  The tremendous outpouring of assistance to strangers after the bombings is a wonderful memory to keep moving forward. Many good things to take out of what was meant to be (and was to many people) a devastating event.

Born and raised a few miles away, held a legal residence in the City for quite a few years, before and after college, which was in Boston proper.  Couldn't be prouder of my "home town" for the way this situation was handled and the way everyone reacted and came together in the face of evil, and pretty much told evil to suck an egg.
