Subject: 6.29.17 Thursday Training! Good morning BT! 8:15am: my last gorgeous trail run while in Tahoe--it was breathtaking as usual! Later: Open water swim in Emerald Bay--one of the most beautiful areas of Tahoe So yesterday was so cool. We drove up a long, curvy, one way road to get to the waterfalls we were looking for. Unbeknownst to us, we missed the turn so just kept driving until we reached the very tip top of a mountain ridge. There was a fee box for parking so we figured we were there and just had to hike the rest of the way in. So off we go--pretty steep, strenuous hike. Come to one lake, it's beautiful. Keep going--see a family coming down and I notice the little kid has a popsicle--I"m like 'what the hell? Where'd she get that?!' Keep going and stumble onto a resort that sits at the base of a glacial bowl called Angora Lakes Resort! There were 9 cabins, a beach and families can rent kayaks, paddleboards, and there was a little gift shop! Turns out it was established in the early 1920s--the owner built the road HIMSELF! His wife came up on mule and sold lemonade to hikers for 70 years until she died in 1995! There is about a 3 year waiting list to get a cabin. If you do get a cabin, workers meet you at the parking and haul your luggage for you, but everything else you have to pack in and out. It was spectacular. Planning to put in our name for summer 2020! Lol! Have a great day BT! |
