Ok, I want to start the ball again. This year  I will not drag up last years thread. Also, I would like to welcome Max on his fairwell tour. He has decided to join us one last time before he hangs up the running shoes.

Right now, I just want to be faster than last year, but I still want to find a way to beat May (assuming she is joning us again).

I also have a room to share. 2 double beds at the Marriott in Middleboro. Same rate as the holiday inn. First come first serve, and at the bequest of my wife, I am looking for the elusive male room mate.

ok, my PR is 2:50. Looking to get under 2:40. What are you looking for? Last year was 3:07, largely due to injurys and lack of run training. I think that this could be a good race this year

Joe:  If you would wait for me, I'd challenge you to sprint to the finish.  Laughing

I will reserve a hotel room, and also looking for a roommate.

OK, I officially signed up and yeah, it'll be my last race for a while.  Perhaps after we relocate to Arizona I might start up again, but triathlons are going to be on the back burner for at least a couple years.  I'm doing Cranberry strictly for fun.  Survive the swim, average at least 20 mph on the bike, and somehow get through the walk/run without injuring myself.  Save me some chicken!

Well, I won't be talking any smack, I'm running my first sprint next weekend but I've signed up for Cranberry as my first Oly. If I can survive the swim I'll feel pretty good. I'm looking forward to it and hopefully I can meet up with some of you there!

adam, it will be tough to miss us. We tend to bring our own tents and folding chairs to the event. If you are comming down on Sat. we also tend to get together for dinner. I am sure that will be it's own thread soon enough, but I will start that dinner party with me. Look forward to meeting you.

I'm entered, I've never done an OLY before, and it will likely be HOT. So I have no idea what kind of time I'll be aiming for. I did 1:04 at Hyannis last week in my second ever tri-sprint. It will be interesting.

I guess I just hope to race to the level of my fitness, and not make any rookie mistakes that will cost me, like going out too fast, swiming off course, messing up transition etc...

Do you guys do any suplimentary nutrition during an Oly? Seeing it is about 2 1/2 -3 hours of activity it is not that much shorter than a marathon time wise, I'm wondering if it is neccessary. Or should I just stick with the sports drink/water combo?

no worries about this being your first oly.  As a slower athlete, I do carry a few things beyond water and sports drink. Being it will be hot, I bring some sort of salt tab or electrolite tab. I like endurolites from Hammer.

I also bring a small flask of gels. A couple of packets worth should be fine as a fall back. The reason I say this is I eat about 2 hours pre race with maybe a small snack before the swim, but then stay on the course for about 3 hours. That is normaly about 5 hours between nutrition if I do not bring anything to eat while racing.

just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah, I plan on eating a gel right before the swim, about a half hour into the bike and then starting the run.  I hope the energy will kick in at the end of the bike and end of the run.

I guess I'd better start practicing eating on the bike - I've never had to take anything during a race (I eat before and after sprints), and I usually don't drink enough.  Did I see people drinking two bottles worth on average?  I don't usually go through one bottle for 20 miles, but I'm not used to running over 6 miles after either

It was in the nineties last year... if its that hot this year you might want to consider drinking something. Be careful getting out of the water too, I smashed my toe on the steps and fell on my face... then puked on the bike... really just a fun filled Sunday morning.

hey, at least you did not take a stick in the eye at Mooseman (YES I know that ws not me). Toughen up! Try racing in an oly only 2 days off of crutches from a knee sprain (yes that was me)

I thought you had more a stomach problem than a knee problem last year at Cranberry.
