what do you guys think about the last few days of training before IM?

My plan calls for rest day / run-swim day / short bike day / race.

I really want to take advantage of the OWS in the ocean, but want to arrive at the start line well rested.   What says BT?

Background: Almost all my swimming has been in a pool.  No waves, no surf. (no fish)

I think you should do a short swim. It shouldn't ruin your taper and it will give you piece of mind knowing that you feel comfortable in the ocean. That will be one less thing to worry about race morning. I just wouldn't get nuts and swim anything more than 10-15 minutes. Good luck I'll be pulling for ya.

follow your spirit at the time.

I have forced m,yself to stay on plan, and I have rested the entire week before events.

I would say one big thing is what my coach called "feel no heat" in those last few days do not feel any heat in your muscles, like the quad, hammie, shoulder, or whatver.

for that "lil" swim issue you may be thinking of... just go and hang out in the water. float around, realize how much more boyant you are and stuff. Relax.

WOW!!!! EXCITING!

I am doing my first 140.6 at the Great Floridian and then volunteering at IMFL. I think you are doing IMFL?

You'll be fine! REALLY!

now, one promise.... the next time I post anxiety you owe me a supportive note.. ahhahaha

aint it just FF'in insane!!!!

Having seen some peeps fished out of the water moments after the start at MOO for whatever reason and being a proponent of practice what you will be in, I would recommend getting in a quick swim to get some level of comfort before you are joined by your friends with the flailing legs and pointy elbows, but thats just me.

Jashac,

In those last few days. I like to start each day prior to the race with an easy swim at 7am.  Helps you get the feel for the water.

Day Before -- I will ride for 20-30 mins after the swim and run 10 mins off the bike.  All easy effort with a few 20-30s pick-ups in each of the swim/bike/run.

Two days out -- all I will do is swim.

Three days out -- I will ride with a short run off the bike.  Inside the ride, I will insert 2x10 min steady effort (no harder).  I will insert a few pick-ups (quick cadence, high power) into the end of the ride.  I will end the run with 4-6 strides with walking recoveries.

 Hope this helps,

gordo

Thank you all.  Iron Man Florida is just days away, and I cannot believe it.  It sounds like the consensus is that three little swims the days preceeding the event will not really hurt taper.

I'm thinking I'll just work my way out through the surf and back -  taking it easy and relaxing - getting used to the water.

Taper is starting to kick in and I feel fantastic today after a 50 min bike ride.  I feel like I'm finally getting caught up on my sleep again.

Thanks again for your advise - and Gordo thanks for your detail - sounds good.

The swim worried me the most. Getting in the water of the actual IM every day helped me a lot. We BTers doing IMLP set a fixed time to meet to swim each morning so I went and met some different on line friends each day.

My race was Sunday.

Thursday: Swam a full loop of the course..huge mental relif knowing I did it, what my time was, it made me feel positive; 30' run

Friday: 15' swim

Saturday: Short 15' swim,  25' bike to make sure everything was working okay

Sunday: Became an IM

I did a short swim of about 20 min or so 2 days before. I was really unsure of the swim prior having never swam in the ocean (or gulf). That swim made all the difference for me. I came out knowing I could do it after that.
