If any of you seasoned athletes are willing to give some advice I would really appreciate it. I have my first triathlon in 1 week (Iron Girl Atlanta June 28th) and I spent this evening practicing T1 and T2.

I took a pic of my set up and explained my process briefly here http://theprincessrunner.blogspot.com/ If you are willing to help out/give advice on T1 and T2. That would be super fabulous. As the day gets closer I am getting just a tad nervous!

Wow, other than the extra clothes for the bike, it's about perfect.   In the right order, and (other than the clothes) only what you need.   But I get it about the bike clothes so it's fine until you get tri shorts.    Have you ridden with a wet bathing  suit under bike shorts?  I'm worried it's gonna get uncomfortable.

Jersey will be hard to get on quickly when it's wet.   Maybe wear it under the wetsuit.

I might actually add a small squirt bottle (or old bike bottle) with water if you will be running thru sand/dirt

In the future, you can also think about riding sockless and either adding them for the run, or going without (depending on the distance, and only with prior practice)

Race belt?  where's your number

Tip for T2 is get your bike stuff off, get your running shoes on and go.  Grab the hat/race belt/gu whatever and handle all that stuffwhile you are starting the run

You have clearly thought thru (and practiced) transition well.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

My race is a sprint and will be in rather warm water so no wetsuit here. I am hoping to make that purchase sometime in the next year or so as I prep for longer distances.

I have never thought of running sockless but it is something I will have to give thought too. I fear huge blisters if I try.

My race number is on a race belt. If you look in the picture, the actual number is under my shoes and the belt is resting on the top of the towel. I was planning on putting my shoes on first and then grabbing the belt to run and put on. Last night I even tried using an old number to get used to that flopping around while trying to put the belt on in a hurry.

Again thanks for you help. I really appreciate it!

As Chris mentioned, lots of items there; the key to transition needs to be minimal equipment so you can move through quickly and efficiently.

My typical transition area will have the following items:

- Bike with helmet (sunglasses open inside) and shoes on the pedals
- Running shoes
- Hat (and if there is a race number, race belt and number balled up inside)

If I remember, I will try to get a picture of my transition tomorrow but the general rule is simpler is better.

I did a longer post about transitions last summer that you can find here: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=127330&start=1

Good luck,

Shane

I'm also a newb and got the same "go sockless" advice. It worked for me without any problem. with your race a week away you have time to try it.

You may end up with blisters (it will depend on your shoes, laces, how hot it is, etc) but this decision comes down to whether it is worth it to you.

I race sockless in flats (sprint and oly) and know that they are going to cause some blisters during the run portion.  This is a tradeoff I am willing to make as the difference in time in transition may make the difference between the AG or OA podium.  However, I do prepare my shoes with Vaseline before the race and cover any problem areas (easy to tell from the dried blood from last time) to reduce the amount of blistering.

Looks good!

I'm not sure if I would try sockless on the race with only a week out (assuming you've never done it before).  Maybe better to go for what you know and what you're comfortable with on your first tri and incorporate no socks for the next one.  My last tri I went without gloves but had taken the time to do quite a few rides for a couple weeks to really get used to it, and I think no socks is a bigger adjustment then no gloves.

Just my .02.

yeah, don't go sockless now, just a thought for the

AS for the race belt/hat,  I always put them on toop of my shoes.   IIn the heat of T2 I've been known to forget a thing or tow.  It requires me to move them and put the shoes on, but it also requires me to picke them up
