Subject: Bike computer during race?
Yesterday I forgot to bring my my bike computer to a tri. I ended up almost .5 mph faster than last month on the same course under similar conditions. I might be spending too much time looking at the computer and not riding. Does everyone else use a computer during races or do you just ride whatever pace feels right to you?

I normally use mine.  I forgot mine for a race in May, and had the opposite result.  My bike split was slower than it should have been.  When racing, I use mine to push myself harder, watching my average speed, and trying to go faster.  It definitely helps push me.

I agree.  I use mine as a tool to push myself.  I try to hit a speed that I don't normaly push to obtain during training.

Mine died 1 mile into IMCDA and I just rode on RPE.  Turns out my pace was .01 mph within what I've been training at and what my goal was.  I may just ditch the computer

I only use a hr monitor/computer in training.  Never raced with any electronics.

I use mine to keep my cadence where I want it.  Don't worry so much about actual speed since that is dependent on the course and conditions.  I also rely on my HRM to keep in my target range.

I use mine during races.  I like being able to have cadence during the race and use it to keep track of time.  I usually know how long it should take me to ride if I was training, so I try to be faster than that during a race.
