Craig Alexander spoke just outside of Chicago last night at a local Tri store. Just wanted to say that he is one nice guy. Very down to earth and was willing to poke fun at himself throughout the question and answer session. I don't think the guy has an ego at all. Learned a little bit about how he trains, things to watch out for in your IM race, and some history on how he got into triathlon. So in all is was pretty good.

One of the biggest was to try to remain flexible throughout the race. If throughout your training you would eat X amount of calories per hour and for some reason during the race you are feeling sick or unable to take that many calories in don't continue to try to force the food in. Basically everything came down to listen to your body. He also talked alot about how hard the race is and that nothing is garunteed. When the race is over win, lose, DNF, or were unable to meet a certain goal take solace in the fact that you gave everything you had. He was very motivating and did not even start triathlon until he was in his mid 20's. He has only done 3 IM and has never ran a stand alone marathon. He said that he had done a half marathon about 12 years ago.

I'm glad to hear that - he seems like a really nice guy on tv and in articles and it's good to be able to support that with another example. I love how our sport has professionals that set such great examples.

Thanks for sharing!
