Subject: wetsuit v. trisuit for a sprint
Hi all!
I'm doing my first tri in sept.  I have a quitanna roo sleeveless wetsuit that I've used for many OWS races.  I like it a lot - but it is not very easy to get in and out of quicky.  I also bought a tri suit that I thought I'd wear for the whole race with a sportsbra underneath.  I'm not too worried about the temp - more that I'm goign to miss the extra speed the wetsuit allows.
What do you all use for sprints in 70 degreeish water?

As long as its legal, I rock the wetsuit.

Practice getting out of the wetsuit. It may take 5 minutes or so to get into one but it should only take about 10-15 seconds to get out of it, especially a sleeveless one. Wear the tri suit under the wetsuit.

If wetsuits are allowed I would wear it.  Will the race have wetsuit strippers?  That takes  less than 10 seconds if they do.  If not make sure you work on getting out of the suit quickly as part of your training.

Conventional wisdom says wear it if it's legal.  However, in a lot of cases, the better swimmer you are, the less speed gain you get from a wetsuit.  Personally, I feel a thousand more times comfortable without a wetsuit and 70ish water isn't cold enough to make me put one on.  For some, it might be cold enough to make them put one on.

Sounds to me like you want to wear it, and that's not a bad idea.  Also, instead of worrying about the time to take it off cancelling out time gains in the water, spend some time practicing taking the thing off.

^^^ Agreed with above. Legal = wear it. If you can't get out of it quickly, practice practice practice.

I don't think it's an either/or question.
If you wear the wetsuit, you will still be wearing the trisuit underneath, no?

I would dress in the trisuit and then make the call on the wetsuit on race morning, depending on the temps.
