Subject: Opinions on Bike Deal

Been checking out all of my LBS's in my neighborhood here in houston and came across a New 2007 Scott S50 in one of them and they are wanting to make me a deal on it......

this is my first road bike and i have done one Sprint Tri.....on a mountain bike .....and and going to keep doing Sprints until i am ready to start doing Oly's......

the bike has a sugg. retail of $679 and they are wanting to sell it for $500.....this is what my initial budget was set at and i feel that i will have a better product buying new than just trying to come across a used $500 bike that i know nothing about or where it's been(i have been searching for about a month).....since i am a newbie i feel that i should go new and get a bike that fits. the guys at the shop are very helpful and it is a 5 min bike ride from my house to just drop in if i ever need anything.....

i really like the shop and the way i was treated...i didnt feel like i'm being sold a bike, i felt i was being educated because they love what they do and they want to share their knowledge.....

$500 was their first offer.....should i try and get them to go lower, or just be happy with finding a new road bike in my budget....i feel if it try to negotiate too hard they will get the little i try to them down out of me sooner or later by doing routine work on the bike....

anybody have experience with this particular model?

Thoughts?

here is a link to the bike and specs.

thanks in advance for your help!!

Does the bike fit you?

If it is a good deal or not depends if it fits you or not.

+1

The Speedster is a good bike for the price, all models. Make sure it fits first of course.

Don't forget that pedals/shoes/cleats/saddle (if you change it) and a computer can all quickly add to that $500.

Buy it , get clipless pedals, add aerobars if you want to really max out your speed, and you should have a bike that's good enough to win every local race if you're strong enough. The Scott Speedster is a solid bike - nothing about it will hold you back.

I wouldn't necessarily try to get them to go lower on price, but maybe throw in a few extras like pedals, etc.

yeah, i got them to throw in pedals with straps, and a little shorter stem that made the fit even better......so far so good. went for a 20mi ride today and everything went well.......
