Subject: 2 lane vs 4 lane roads
One one of my bike routes I have the option of choosing two different roads. One is a two lane road with a speed limit of 35 mph. The other is a 4 lane road with a speed limit of 45 mph. They are both a two mile stretch.

Generally I pick the 4 lane road because that gives cars an option of moving over instead of trying to squeeze by me with an oncoming car.

What would you pick?

I know I'm more comfortable passing a cyclist in my car on a 4 lane road, too!

Would depend upon if the road had wide shoulders, amount of traffic, etc.  Around where I live I have lots of two lane roads but the 19 mile loop I have worked out is mostly 20 mph limit with some being 30mph (basically meaning 30mph and 40 mph).  When your trying to get 100 miles in that loop gets very boring but a heck of a lot safer than the other roads (55mph meaning 65 mph).

I would say take the two lane road because of the lower speed limit.  I always feel like cars are more annoyed/dangerous when on faster roads.
