Pre-race routine:

Got up before the crack of dawn and drove down to the race site (about an hour) with my training partner. Got there WAY early and had already picked up packages so just waited in the car until 6:45 or so. Walked 1/2 mile to transition area, got marked up, picked up chip and set up transition spot. Ate marathon bar around 7:15 - probably shouldn't have eaten the entire thing.
Event warmup:

Got in the lake for a nice 100 yard swim to a bouy and back. Checked out entrance and exit from water. Squealed about 10 times about how much I hate lake bottoms.
Swim

  • 600 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

Hate, hate, hate that they put all females in the 4th wave with only 2 minutes between each wave. Caught "green caps" before 200 yards, caught "blue caps" before 400 yards and was passing "yellow caps" by finish.

Wish I could have shave 30 seconds off to hit a sub-10 swim, but overall I'm pretty pleased.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I really can do except maybe register as a guy at the next race so that I can start in the first wave.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Decided to do something different and try racing this sprint with no socks, so transition went VERY quickly. Not many people were out of the water yet so there was no chance of collision in the area.
What would you do differently?:

Well, nothing right now. But later on, I would have wished that I put socks on.

Comments:

Nice ride. I could see when I was getting passed by girls in my AG. With so many people around, there was ALOT of grouping in the first 2 miles or so, but I was able to find my pace and avoid drafting (which is good since the motorcycle came by around mile 4).
What would you do differently?:

Ride more. The bike is diffinitely my slow point right now and I just need to get out more and get the mileage on to pull down the time.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Race didn't get T2 times. I'm guessing that it was 1:15 or so. Double-tying running shoes takes forever!
What would you do differently?:

Heh - in about a mile, I would be wishing that I had reconsidered the whole 'no socks' thing.

Comments:

Felt pretty good. Thought that I was still behind a friend of ours from our running group and so I was trying to catch up with him (turns out he was behind me the entire time).

About mile 1, my shoes started killing my heels and since I didn't have socks on, I could literally feel the skin peeling away. Not good. Around mile 2, I thought that maybe my chip was rubbing down into the shoe so I stopped to adjust it twice. Nothing helped. So today I am not sporting some lovely raw spots on both heels and my ankle.
What would you do differently?:

Hmm - socks maybe? No, I might try the no-socks thing again if I get new shoes. I think that maybe the padding was worn out on the back or that they are a half size too small for me.

Honestly, pretty pleased with run time - especially if I can credit a minute and 15 seconds to T2.
Post race
Warm down:

Water at the finish line. And then a banana. Just walked around and talked to friends while waiting for others to finish.

Event comments:

Tri the Parks is a good series for doing sprints. Came to it just for fun and walked away with a nice bronze AG medal. Will definitely do it again.

Like I said on Saturday, "When are you going to take this seriously??" !!! Girl you could do some damage with a swim and run split like that. As for your bike it will come down the more that you ride. It was great meeting you along with all the other BTers there!!

Congrats on the hardware! I had the same blister problem. Still not going to wear socks for a sprint. See you in Peachtree City???

Steam! What can I say? You've found your niche! Keep racking up that hardware. I'm tri'ing vicariously through you.

Seriously, congrats on your continued success. Looking forward to Tugaloo with the gang.

Joe, what are you doing here? Why don't you just go sit by the water and leave us working people alone?

Or - as you did in your first race, why don't you go sit IN the water?

LOL LOL *cannot...stop...laughing* LOL! LOL!

Wait, its not hot enough yet for him to wear his wetsuit and get stuck in the water trying to take it off.

What I meant before was, go sit by the water (at his lakehouse you see) and LOOK at the water because its moving too fast for him.
