Subject: RE: Kids Bike Trainer ShotHi all! This is the text from the PM I sent back to berlinsd when he originally asked me about this. BTW, last night I was riding and my daughter came downstairs and saw me riding. Well she immediately wanted to ride with me so she went to the garage and got her snow boots and Cinderella elbow and knee pads. Imagine that on an outfit not unlike the one in the photo album. Cracked me up. "You are not going to believe how easy this is. I just put my son's training wheels back on his bike. I took two 10 lb. Olympic plates from my weight set and spaced them out so the wheels rest in the center ring. It's nice because it helps keep the wheels in place but lifts the rear up enough for the wheel to spin. There's no resistance, of course, but he doesn't need it. It's also nice because both kids can take their bikes off by themselves and ride around the basement so I don't have to get off the bike to help. If I didn't have the weights I'd just look around the house for some other junk that would provide an inch or two of clearance and have some type of ridge to hold the training wheels in place. The 2x4's didn't really work too well because she could roll off the front.
Good luck, mine are age 4 and 6 now (3+5 in pic, two months ago) and they love "training with daddy"!" |
