Will you wear a wetsuit this weekend if the temp is about 78.1?

"If the temperature is between 78.1 and 83.9 degrees F, participants wearing a wet suit will not receive a ranking, be eligible for awards or earn points for their USAT club (split times still provided)."

They said the water temp was 78.5 on 8/16, so chances are it will be above 78.1 on race day.

I don't expect to win an award and I'm not in a USAT club, but what does "not receive a ranking" mean?  I won't show in the final standings?

I can't decide if the extra buoyancy from the suit is worth the penalty for wearing it.  What are others doing?

I'm going to bring my wetsuit with me just in case the water temp falls below 78.1.  But, if the temp doesn't fall, I am not going to wear the wetsuit.  Then I have to decide weather to wear my speedo skinsuit or my tri suit???  Still undecided on that, but leaning towards two piece tri suit.

When I went a couple of weeks ago, I was really warm in my full wetsuit.  I am not going to wear one.  I am not a big fan of the wetsuit anyway.  Too constricting for me.

 from RD:

If the temperature is between 78.1 and 83.9 degrees F, participants wearing a wet suit will not receive a ranking, be eligible for awards or earn points for their USAT club (split times still provided). If the water temperature 84.0 degrees F or greater, no participants will be allowed to wear a wet suit.

The water temperature of Loon Pond, site of the Cranberry swim, as of Saturday, 8/16/08, was 78.5 degrees F.

YIKES!

Swimming is my weak link and my sleeveless wetsuit provides me with extra bouyancy and confidence.  So, am I a complete wimp if I swim with one?  I really don't care about rankings and I'm certainly not going to win any awards....

yes it's warm.  Was at Walden the past Sat - not sure of the water temp there but being a bigger pond than Loon pond, I still feel warm.  I imagine Loon pond would be warmer.  I'm all for not wearing one. : )

I swam an oly race in Lowell last month. officeal temp. was under, but friends tested the night before as over. I wore a full suit and died from heat. I have a sleeveless, but if temps do not drop, plan on seeing my dry suit left in transition.

Boy am I glad I like to OWS as much as I can without a wetsuit

cran was wetsuit legal last year but I swam without one- the pond is shallow-if you stay towards the shoreline edge you can touch bottom any time you want..just think of the time you will save not having to get the dumb thing off!!lol

oh, I dunno...

I've been training with a wetsuit, it's sleeveless so the heat's not an issue...I'm such a lame swimmer I'll probably end up wearing it...I don't need the additional anxiety...

Sleeveless should be ok.  Was swimming in a full suit the past Sat at Walden.  Felt too warm but not overheat.  I can tolerate the heat pretty well.
