I read a mens health article that says you should rest 2 days a week from training.  I personally think 1 is fine...  The rest days they suggest are always consecutive as well.  Any thoughts on the topic?

occasionally I'll take 2.. if I feel really beat up.. but usually its just 1.. the other day that you may take off, I'll do a light workout of either a recovery run, light swim or even weights, depending on how close to a race I am..

There are some pretty good and knowledgeable triathletes on here who don't take any days off.

Although this summer has been abnormal; I will usually have very few days off during the year; depending on the athlete, their ability to recover and the quality of their program, it is entirely possible to train effectively without having a scheduled day off.

I don't take days off.. a well balanced week won't need days off.

I rarely take a day off. I generally plan a lighter day on Mondays, with just swimming and no run or bike. That's as close as I get to a (planned) day off. Sometimes travel forces a day off though.

Just my 2c: if you NEED two days off to recover from a workout, then you probably trained too hard.

EDIT:  When I was a pure runner, I also rarely took a day off, but did take a light day roughly once per week.

I take one day off a week, usally Friday or Saturday. I usally don't take 2 days off in a row, but I never take any less than one day off.

I don't know how the people who train 7 days a week do it. My muscles start feeling really heavy and tired without one day of rest a week.
