Sign-ups are in Nov, I believe, and you find out in April.

What about to volunteer for that one?  I'm actually looking to volunteer 2009 or 2010 for that one.  (only way I'll ever get to Kona is to do that)

Kona doesn't work that way no preference for volunteers..only can get in via qualifying or the lottery for the most part.

Looks like its that time of year again when we need a (permanent?) stickie on frequently asked questions about Kona found on the Ironman site FAQ section

I think she meant as the only way to get there at all, is to go as a volunteer.  That's how I read it at least.

Volunteering there is great.  Best positions are, IMHO, working T1 ( gets you on the pier for the swim start ) and bike catcher ( bring your own rubber gloves though, they always run out ).

And who knows if that helps or not.  I volunteered in 2005, and was selected in the lottery in 2006.

Currently planning to go to Kona in 2009.  Hope to get involved with the race at some level.  Good friend just got stationed there...so free place to stay!

Any BT'ers need a jockstrapper in 2009?

Wife wants to see Hawaii - so, it is a win-win!
