Anyone done this race before?

Is the swim start run/wade/float?

Bike course hilly/flat?

Doing this one because great lake escape was cancelled

This was my first ever Tri last year.   I did the sprint distance.

They did an in water start, so make sure you start with the correct group.   Not sure if they will change to a beach start like the rest of the HFP events.

The bike course is hilly, but you should be able to keep a pretty good pace - a lot of flat and downhill stretches. I only recall one tough hill.   Not very long, just a short steep climb.  So if you are doing Oly, then you will have to do it twice.

Run course is fairly flat.

Good luck and see you there!

Yes, Sprint and Oly distances

Is the swim start run/wade/float?

Sprint in 05 was a run into the water start, maybe 5-10ft on the beach, Oly in 07 was a wade start at about calf/ankle depth.

There is a short climb from the beach up to the transition area. It is rocky and pocked with roots. You won't need sandals or anything... but just watch your step in bare feet.

Bike course hilly/flat?

It is classic north-eastern Ohio. Rollers. Short but steep climbs. Search the route forums. I am sure I mapped the course so you can get a profile and compare it to your normal training rides.

The run is in the park. Out and back. It is also loops all over the place... Good for if you have someone cheering you on. Going out you do a gradual incline to the turn around. Nothing too serious.

If you need any other info just let us know.

Additional info. Beach is not that bad it is not very fine sand, but no gigantic rocks or anything to cut your foot open or anything. Watch for lake grass. There was a section last year before the first turn that freaked some people out. Transition area is on on a parking lot/tarmac.

Good Luck

I tried registering online this morning and the online service stated registration was closed.  Anybody else having any trouble?

I've sent HFP an email, of course, but they don't provide a phone number and sometimes the answer the emails a day or two after receipt.

either call or just show up, and let them know what happened. being a much larger race company than say ultra fit or fatrabbit, thing sometimes happen. they are good people though and will get you set up in person.

the courses are easy, run is FLAT!!! bike is gently rolling, one short steep climb, can big ring it if you keep the pace up.

I did the women's only this morning and I was a bit shocked with the amount of seaweed in the lake YUCK.  Our bike was really flat...and the run was really flat....wet but flat.

The womens only and the portage lake course are, in particular the bike, vastly different.
