PS: does anybody put anti-perspirant/deodorant on before a race or workout? I don't because I want to let my body sweat. Otherwise, of course, I do use the stuff!

Before a workout specifically? No.

I DO!  If you happen to read a newleaf post, his signature would be rather appropriate in this thread.

I have a history of diabetes. They tell diabetics not to use anti persperant. Something about it...

Also would like to add. I've gotten to where my sense of smell is very good when running. More so when running long. Get nauseous from smells. Running by a woman with perfume on almost makes me throw up. Yes there is a pleasant odor on top... but the underlying odor smells like something dead. I know now why dog's will react to a woman with perfume on. I hold my breath if I run by a woman who looks like she might be wearing perfume. I actually much prefer a woman's natural odor. Not trying to be cute. Women don't smell dead.

I'm definitely more sensitive to smells. I run by a cow farm, and normally this is fine, but when the cow odor (far inferior to horse odor, which would have made me smile) had wafted somewhere it normally wasn't and caught me by surprise, I almost fed the flowers.

I put antiperspirant on before a workout. I hate sweating profusely and that helps keep it down a bit. I like to work up a sweat, just not THAT much. I got in the habit when I was fencing - if I didn't put on antiperspirant, my gear was more than just soaked, it was wringable! I use the scent-free stuff, though - no fake schtank for me, thanks!

I avoid bathing for at least 2 weeks before races and eat nothing but indian food, cheese and onions. It offers a competetive advantage when your opponents pass out as you near them.
